KIM KARDASHIAN GIVES BIRTH: REPORTS

Kim Kardashian Kanye West

Los Angeles - Reality television star Kim Kardashian gave birth to a baby girl on Saturday, her first child with rapper boyfriend Kanye West, news reports said.

Kardashian, aged 32, was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre in Beverly Hills five weeks ahead of her due date and delivered a baby girl, the entertainment news website TMZ.com reported.

The website said West was present at the birth and had cancelled an event to promote his new album late on Friday after Kardashian had complained of feeling a "little off".

US Magazine quoted a hospital source as saying the Kardashian and her daughter were "doing great and amazing!"

"Kim had her baby," the source was quoted as saying. "She's five weeks early. Kim got sick last night and had the baby early."

Kardashian announced her pregnancy on New Year's Eve last year following her whirlwind romance with West.

"Looking forward to great new beginnings in 2013 and to starting a family. Happy New Year!!! Xo," Kardashian wrote in a blog.

Kardashian shot to notoriety in 2007 after the emergence of a home sex video featuring her and her then boyfriend, the singer Ray J, filmed several years earlier.

She later became the star of the reality series Keeping Up With the Kardashians, which centred around the lives of her and her Los Angeles-based family.

She wrote: ''Father's Day is always bitter sweet. Despite being born five weeks early, the couple's daughter is in good health and weighs almost five pounds.
Another insider said: ''Of course, Kanye was there with Kim when she went to the hospital and had the baby. She started to feel sick late last night [Friday] and was having contractions.
''They're all doing great and amazing.''
A number of Kim's close friends including Jonathan Cheban and Brittny Gastineau were spotted visiting her in hospital carrying bouquets of pink flowers.
Kanye's friends Nas and Russell Simmons offered their congratulations on Twitter.

PNG TEEN BEHEADS FATHER AFTER RAPE

Sydney - A teenage girl beheaded her father with a bush knife after he raped her at their home in Papua New Guinea, a report said on Monday, with community leaders protecting her, saying the man deserved to die.

The Post-Courier newspaper said the 18-year-old chopped her father's head clean off after he repeatedly raped her last Tuesday night in their village in the poverty-stricken Pacific nation's Western Highlands.

The report cited a pastor as saying the father, in his mid-40s, had three other children and raped his daughter when they were alone in the house after the mother and the other siblings visited relatives.

Community vowing to protect girl

Pastor Lucas Kumi said the man went to his daughter's room in the night and raped her repeatedly.

"The father wanted to rape his daughter again in the morning inside the house and that was when the young girl picked up the bush knife and chopped her father's head off," he said.

Community leaders are now refusing to hand the girl over to police, vowing to protect her.

"The people and leaders in our area went and saw the headless body of the father after the girl reported the incident to the leaders and the people and told her story of why she had killed her father," said Kumi.

"The daughter did what she did because of the trauma and the evil actions of her father so that is why we have all agreed that she remains in the community."

Violent crime, as well as witchcraft, is rife in Papua New Guinea with the government last month voting to revive the death penalty in a bid to deter offenders after a series of high-profile grisly incidents.

Parents force girls into prostitution

Brutality against women, including domestic violence and rape, is also endemic in the country.

Over the weekend, the Post-Courier reported that child prostitution is on the rise, particularly in the capital Port Moresby where many new nightclubs have sprung up, with young girls increasingly being forced into the sex trade.

Some are being pushed into selling themselves by their parents to help them cope with rising costs of living, it said, citing non-government organizations.

"Child prostitution is an issue so hidden from our public consciousness that the mere mention of it results in shock and denial," said one NGO.

"It's true, and it's here so we have to face it."

GUNMEN INVADE KADUNA VILLAGES, KILL TWO SOLDIERS

Residents want troops to remain in Borno communities
‘Boko Haram attacks have raised cases of cardiac arrest, others’ THERE was pandemonium in Birnin Gwari Local Council Area of Kaduna State Thursday when gunmen invaded some of the villages, killing several people and injuring others. It took the intervention of armed soldiers who engaged the gunmen before they fled. The resultant gun duel involving the soldiers and the insurgents at Kwasakwasa Village in Birnin Gwari Council Area led to the death of two soldiers, while many of the armed gunmen were killed. The attack, which came four days after a similar one on three villages in the area, was said to have occurred at about 6 a.m. yesterday. A resident of Kwasakwasa, located about 70 kilometres from Birnin Gwari Local Council Headquarters, Malam Isa Jatau, said that four vehicles belonging to security personnel were also set ablaze by the gunmen. Jatau said several other villagers and security men were injured, adding that the bravery of soldiers and other security officers helped to ward off the attackers. Secretary of the local council, Alhaji Zubairu Zakariya, also confirmed the attack, but said details on the casualty were being compiled. According to him, Chairman of the council, Alhaji Idris Alhassan, had helped to convey the victims of the attack to Birnin Gwari General Hospital. Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 1 Mechanised Division, Nigerian Army, Kaduna, Colonel Sani Usman, who confirmed the unfortunate attack by the armed gunmen in Birnin Gwari yesterday, said in a text message: “Sorry, I am attending a programme in Jaji. Yes, I can confirm to you there was an encounter between our soldiers and insurgents in Birnin Gwari in which a number of the assailants were killed. Unfortunately, we also sustained two casualties, other details later. Thank you”. Meanwhile, residents of Kirenoa Town in Marte Council Area and six other communities in the Lake Chad Basin Areas of Borno State on Wednesday appealed to President Goodluck Jonathan to allow the military dislodging Boko Haram terrorists remain in that part of the state. Since the deployment of troops to the area in May, the residents said yesterday they have experienced peace, spared of incessant attacks and killings and devastation of their wheat and rice fields of the South Chad Irrigation Project (SCIP) of Chad Basin Development Authority (CBDA). The Federal Government, according to Audu Ibrahim at the Town Hall Meeting with Governor Kashim Shettima and Commander of the Combat Force in Marte, Lt.-Col. Gabriel Olufemi, has liberated the people of Marte and the entire Lake Chad Basin Areas of Borno State by destroying the Kirenoa training camp and hideout of the Boko Haram sect members. His words: “All of us here that assembled this afternoon are breathing fresh air, and we are going about our farming and fishing activities in the Lake Chad Basin Areas. The continuation of the liberation of Marte by soldiers has to be guaranteed with the establishment of a permanent barracks in tightening the security of lives and property in our area. “Our dire need to have a permanent Army Barracks cannot be over-emphasised, especially with the current security challenges. We are afraid the Boko Haram terrorist may return if and when the military rounds off their six-month mission to Marte, we wish the President will establish a military barracks here in Kirenoa to check activities of the Boko Haram sect.” Ibrahim, however, noted: “We are happy the President ordered the deployment of troops to Marte, though, initially we were afraid of the soldiers because of what happened in Baga recently. But they have proved us wrong with their disposition towards us; we don’t want them to leave again.” When contacted for his confirmation of the gunmen’s attack, the Kaduna State Police Commissioner, Mr. Femi Adenaike, said though he was still expecting details of the attack, the thick forest in the area, which stretches to parts of Zamfara, Katsina, Niger, and the Southern part of the country, was being used as cover by armed gangs for some time. The prolonged exposure of residents, including top government officials, to Boko Haram incessant bombings and killings in Borno State has increased the cases of cardiac arrests and other psycho-traumatic diseases recorded at the hospitals and health centres in Maiduguri, Bama, Monguno and Biu towns. Addressing journalists on Wednesday to mark Democracy Day and second year in office of Governor Kashim Shettima in Maiduguri, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Salma Anas-Kolo, who made the disclosure, said the Boko Haram insurgency has negatively impacted on the health and wellbeing of the people of Borno. He added that healthcare delivery services to their doorsteps have been seriously affected. Anas-Kolo said: “The violence going on has, no doubt, caused psychological trauma for many of the people and brought new emerging health challenges in Borno State. Our hospitals in Borno are now recording high rates of psychological trauma cases in patients owing to the insecurity in the state. “Many people are now hypertensive, having heart diseases, as well as mental and physical disorder. This is not only with adults, but among many women and their children.” The commissioner also noted that “there is also a rise in cases of unwanted pregnancies due to forceful marriages, and of course, such situation is followed by hike in cases of sexually transmitted diseases such as HIV/AIDS, syphilis and gonorrhea.” But, according to her, despite the security challenges in the state, the government has continued to improve on and strengthen the health facilities and services by building six new General Hospitals at Konduga, Briyel, Askira, Kalabalge and Gudumbali, while those at Magumeri (Nursing Homes Maiduguri) now named after the slain General Mamman Shuwa, Dikwa, Mafa, Kwaya Kusar, Biu and Marte, have been upgraded and renovated.

When our correspondent visited Obunneke’s parents’ home at 30 Ayinke Street, the mother, Irene Osondu, said the deceased was her youngest child.
She said her son was not a cult member and urged the police authorities to arrest his killers.
She said, “My son was a good boy. He sold clothes for a living before he was killed. He has a daughter and a wife and we have not even broken the news to them.
“Police say investigations are ongoing, but we want justice. His father is currently assisting the police in their investigation.”
Meanwhile, it was learnt that Tiny was buried at a cemetery in Odogbolu, Ogun State on Monday.
The deputy Police Public Relations Officer for the state command, Damascus Ozoanni, confirmed Obunneke’s murder.
He said, “From what we gathered, a woman and one Tunde were standing close to Famous Hotel when a guy wielding a broken bottle stabbed Obunneke. As Obunneke was running for his life, the assailant picked up a knife at a Suya spot and stabbed him in the chest.
“Policemen from Somolu Division rushed to the scene and took him to Jolad Hospital where he was rejected. He was then taken to Christiana Hospital where he died.”
Ozoanni said he was unaware of Tiny’s death.

Nigerian military claim to have discovered Hizbollah arms cache

Nigerian military claim to have discovered Hizbollah arms cache

Soldiers in northern Nigeria have uncovered a hidden arms cache that authorities there believe belonged to members of the Lebanese militant movement Hizbollah.

Military officials stand near ammunitions seized from suspected members of Hezbollah
Military officials stand near ammunitions seized from suspected members of Hezbollah after a raid of a building in Nigeria's northern city of Kano.
Officials showed journalists the weapons, which they said soldiers confiscated from under the master bedroom of a home in Kano, the north's largest city. The weapons had been packed into small coolers and concealed under several layers of concrete, the military said in a statement.
The arms, later shown on the state-run Nigerian Television Authority, appeared to include badly corroded rocket-propelled grenades, landmines, hand grenades, assault rifles and magazines. Some of the weapons appeared to have been charred.
The military did not explain why the men held the weapons, other than to say they were part of Hizbollah, the Lebanese Shiite Muslim political party.
"The arms and ammunition were targeted at facilities of Israel and Western interest in Nigeria, however, the security agencies are making frantic efforts to unveil the true situation," the military's statement read. "At the end of investigation, all those involved will be prosecuted."
The military did not say which targets had been chosen to be attacked. They said three Lebanese men had been arrested, including one who was caught at Kano's international airport trying to board a flight to Beirut carrying some $60,000 (£39,400) in cash.
Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation with more than 160 million residents, has a large Lebanese community that has interest in businesses across the country. However, this was the first time that Nigerian authorities have claimed that Hizbollah had an operational interest in the country.
Iran, which backs Hizbollah, has recently been implicated in two incidents in Nigeria. An Iranian and his Nigerian accomplice were sentenced to five years in prison earlier this month over trying to smuggle a weapons shipment heading to Gambia through Nigeria. U.S. authorities and the United Nations have linked the Iranian to his nation's Quds Force, part of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps.
In February, Nigerian authorities broke up what they described as an Iranian-backed group that was gathering intelligence about locations frequented by Americans and Israelis, as well as making lists of famous people for possible attacks. Those arrested in the operation have yet to face charges.
